Meet Rhianna – The Digital Diana

Several months ago I stumbled across this project on Indiegogo and after watching the video, I thought, “Why the hell not?”  I quickly found someone else’s credit card (kidding) and supported the project. I purchased the early bird, go to the launch party package because everyone needs an excuse to go to London. The party was held at The Photographers Gallery, a lovely place that I will definitely return to one day soon.
Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to stay long at the party as I had to catch a bus back to South Wales that evening.   So after quickly meeting the creator, Greg Dash (a lovely fellow who lucky him is also Welsh) of Cyclops Cameras, chatting with a few people there and grabbing my lovely little Rhianna, I had to dash (see what I did there) off to catch the bus.

What you probably want to know now, is: was it worth the price of airfare from Canada, and visiting family in Wales before heading to London to get my grubby little paws on this beauty?  Well, no.  The experience however was priceless 🙂 and the camera was well worth the funding price.  Do I like the camera? If you’ve ever read any of my other posts, you’ll know I love every camera I touch and this is no exception.  It’s the same size as the  Lomography Diana Mini (which I also love), nice and light and I’ve been pleasantly surprised by the results of its tiny sensor.  Now on to some samples.

I didn’t read the instructions (who does that?), I just started shooting. Not bad.   Just hanging out at my Aunts house in Caldicot.

Maybe I should read the instructions or actually look at the camera settings tho. Nah.  Off to Caerwent.

Pretty good so far.  How about the 14 Locks in Newport?

Pretty good.  I was disappointed that the square images were so tiny.  Time to read the manual and play with the settings. For realz.

Boy am I glad I did.  The HD setting blew me away.  Taken at Weston-Super-Mare.

Not so much a novelty lo-res camera after all, are we miss Rhianna?

Want some more of that?  I thought so.  Around the Heston Brake Long Barrow, Redwick,  the near by sea wall and Barry Island just for fun.

Some More?  OK. Off to Avebury and Silbury Hill

More?  Damn Right!
How bout Windsor?  I stopped in on the way back to Canada.

Speaking of Canada, how does Rhianna like the cold?  So far so good.  It was -14c when I got back and she loved it.

I think I might keep her 🙂

All photos straight out of camera.  No edits of any kind.  Composition errors my own. There are only 1000 of these cameras being made, if you are one of the other lucky 999, I hope you enjoy this camera as much as I have and will continue to do so.

Cheers!!
